“Dr.Lalitha Indrani Malwenna (MBBS [Sri Lanka], MSc and MD in Community Medicine) is a specialist in Public Health and currently working as the Deputy Director Training, National Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS), Kalutara, Sri Lanka. NIHS is the premier Public Health Training Institute established in 1926 as the first Public Health Training Institute in South East Asia. It currently functions as the only WHO collaborating centre for the development of Public Health Work force to the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka.
Dr. Malwenna graduated in MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1996 and completed MSc and MD in Community Medicine from the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2001 and 2010 respectively. Dr.Malwenna completed her fellowship in the School of Public Health, La Trobe University, Victoria, Australia in 2012. She has experience in the field of Public Health for 24 years as a Medical Officer of Health, as a Consultant Community Physician in the Ministry of Health. She contributes to the development of the field of Public Health through training of Public Health workforce Nationally and Internationally. As the Deputy Director Training, she bears the sole responsibility of ensuring the highest standard of all the trainees of the National Institute of Health Sciences to provide island wide service in Preventive Health. She contributes further in relation to policy planning as a public health specialist for the development in the field of Public Health in the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka. She has conducted many research in the field of reproductive health and has been awarded as the International Best Researcher Award in 2021in the ISSN International Research Awards 2021 ceremony.”
