He graduated from IIST, formerly Known as BE College, Shibpur, Kolkatta University from Metallurgical Engineering with distinction in the year 1987. Then he awarded M.Tech and PhD in Metallurgical Engineering, in the area of deformation behaviour from IIT, Kharagpur, India, in the year 1989 and 1995 respectively. He joined as scientist in CSIR-AMPRI in the year 1990 and till date he is serving in this institution. He presently holding the responsibility of Head of Department, Alloys, Composites and Cellular Materials (ACCM). In CSIR-AMPRI, he started his work in the area of aluminium alloys and composites, squeeze casting and squeeze infiltration, materials characterisation and tribology. He has contributed a lot in the area of aluminnium metal matrix composites and tribology. He then started his work on cellular materials and high strength magnesium alloys, carbon and titanium foams. Under his leadership, pilot scale production facility of aluminium composites, closed cell aluminium foams, open cell aluminium foams and carbon foam has been established in CSIR-AMPRI. They are interacting with Indian industries, defense and space organization. He has published 200 research papers in SCI journals, 80 in conference proceedings, three book chapters and edited two conference proceeding and one book. He is well recognised for his work in aluminium composites and aluminium foam not only in India but also in the world. he receives, several awards like Binani gold medal, SAE awward, IAAM medal lecture, Rula research award, INSA Yong scientists Fellowship etc. He completed several projects for Industriies, goverment sectors. He has supervised 20 PhD fellows and 80 M.Tech tehsis.
